The NFL trade deadline was at 4PM ET today and the Commanders were busy. They traded both of their star edge rushers, sending Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears for a 2nd round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. They also sent Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 3rd round pick, which is actually a compensatory pick, in the 2024 NFL Draft. Many fans on social media were pleased with the return from Sweat, but just as many were left puzzled with the return for Young. When you put it all together, I do not think a 2nd and a 3rd round pick is a good haul for two at worst above average players at a premium position. It has been reported by Dianna Russini that coaches wanted these players to stay, but ownership overruled.
The Commanders new owners just created two holes at premium positions, we’ll just have to wait and see how it plays out for them.
